In the
class, we focused on how rivers flow and performed several experiments;
cataloging data from a mini flume in class and then applying the experiments to
two different rivers in Virginia. After discussing rivers, the emphasis turned
to analyzing the data gathered using excel and GIS software. The class ended
with group projects concerning the El Nino weather effects on Virginia
streamflow. The class also looked at the impact of people on the ecology of
rivers and streams, primarily man-made dams and pollution of public waterways.
